What is the best nonsurgical treatment of a herniated disc and degenerative diseases?
Physical therapy and acupuncture seems to help some and not want the surgery and I'm trying to avoid a cortisone shot. Any suggestions for more "organic" treatments? Thanks
The only thing that really worked for me was the shot above poster is talking about. It is an epidural steroid injection. I regret not give a better response. It was an outpatient procedure – it had in November 2004 and have had no problems since. It has been wonderful. I have a hernia at L4/L5 and L5/S1 and was in tremendous pain. I had a years ago when I first hurt my shots back and not help, but this – I'm not sure if the stars were aligned right or what, but it has been 2 years, touch wood! 
The shot itself was painless – you lidacaine first illuminated and then injected a painkiller as well. There is a little pinch and then pressure and have to inject slowly – as in minutes – and then it was over – I think maybe took 20 minutes in total. I had tried just about everything – chiropractors, adjustments, herbal wraps, therapy … Good luck to you – I know how painful it is.
